270 XT Awning Mk2 - Overview

The canvas on the 270 XT Awning Mk2 is a 315gsm polyester rip-stop canvas that is mould and mildew resistant, The canvas is The Bush Company's traditional olive green colour, and it is pre-treated during manufacture for water resistance.

The 270 XT Awning Mk2 bag is  460gsm polyester rip-stop canvas with YKK Zippers.  In contrast to PVC covers, the canvas allows the awning to breath while keeping it dust/dirt free and moisture is able to wick out through the zipper reducing the risk of mould or mildew.  The rip-stop material on the bag also reduces the risk of large running tears in the bag as a result of contact with tree branches.

The frame of the 270 XT Awning Mk2 is made from an extruded alloy composite which has been specifically designed to provide the elasticity, strength and durability we required.  The main bracket for the hinge is constructed from stainless steel providing huge strength.  The arms on the awning have been gusseted for additional strength, which enables the awning to be fully free standing without any poles in even strong wind conditions.  We do not supply poles for the awning as it does not need them, but we do supply guy ropes and pegs for use in extreme wind conditions to prevent damage to your roof rack or vehicle.  The guy ropes attach to heavy duty webbing loops that are incorporated into the ends of the arms and also midway along each canvas section.  In conjunction with the natural rake of the awning, the guy ropes should be used to prevent pooling of water on the canvas and to guide water runoff in preferred places. We do not recommend leaving the awning up unattended during snowfall due to risk of canvas stretching as a result of excessive weight.

Fitting the 270 XT Awning Mk2

There are 2 Heavy Duty L brackets supplied with the 270 XT Awning Mk2.  One fitment bracket must be attached to the stainless steel mounting plate at the hinged end of the awning no more than 200mm (7 ⁷/₈inch) from the hinged end, The second bracket must be mounted no less than 1.3m (4' 3") from the bracket at the hinged end.  To mount the awning to one of our rooftop tents you will need an Awning To Tent bracket which are sold separately.

Using & Caring For Your Awning

Before Use:
We recommend that new awnings are thoroughly wet down before first use. This will ensure that your awning performs well in wet weather by allowing the poly/cotton corespun thread and canvas to swell ensuring the take up of any potential leaks in the stitching.

Deploying & Pacing Away:
When deploying you awning if the canvas seem excessively tight, STOP and check that the canvas is not caught on the hinge mechanism and that it has not slid too far one way in the sail-track on the awning frame.  When packing the awning  away, ensure that the canvas is not pinched between the awning arms especially close to the hinge mechanism.

Cleaning Canvas & Bag:
Do not use soap or detergents on the canvas.
Do not store the product if wet, allow drying first.
To clean use a soft brush and cold water.
Do not expose to petrol, oils or harsh chemicals.

Cleaning mould:
Allow mould to dry
Remove surface mould off with stiff bristle brush
Vacuum the area
Treat area with Oil of Clove spray (diluted spray can be purchased or can be mixed using a few drops of oil into a spray bottle of water)

  4. kyle

I have a Toyota Tacoma DCSB with a front runner canopy rack. If I do 2 awning brackets, do I have to position one of them on the awnings hinge bracket? Or can i choose where i want them. Id like the awning to not be overhanging so far over my cab. Id prefer the back hinge bracket to overhang off the rear somewhat in order to distribute the weight and for aesthetics. Thanks for any help, cheers!

    Hi Brian,

Thank you for your email enquiry.

It is possible to use the brackets supplied with our awnings on the ARB base rack, but you need to drill through the slats of the rack to mount them. Alternatively, you can use the KAON brackets (https://www.kaon.com.au/universal-270-degree-awning-bracket-set-to-suit-ar).
